Pedigree

Marine Engineer Arthur Kadey approached well-known naval architect James Krogen in 1976 to design a 42 foot full displacement trawler yacht for personal use.   Kadey arranged to have the boat built in Taiwan, and by 1978 the two teamed up to form Kadey-Krogen Yachts with the idea of marketing a 42 footer reflecting some of Krogen's earlier custom work.

The Krogen 42 on one of the few production (1977 to 1998) trawler-style cruising yachts built on a full displacement hull.  Between 1977 and 1998, there were two hundred and three 42 footers produced.

SpiritQuest is hull number 117 and was commissioned in January of 1987.  She weighed in at 39,500 lbs and her length overall is 42'4". Her original name was Sea Wind but changed to "The Deborah C" when new owners purchased her in 1999.  When we bought her in October of 2003, we named her SpiritQuest. See "Whats in a Name" for how we picked SpiritQuest.

The Federal government has a nation wide program that documents ownership of boats.  This gives each vessel a "documentation number" that stays with it in perpetuity. SpiritQuest is #921579.  You can find information on any documented vessel by going to the Vessel Documentation website and either doing a search by name or documentation number.

As a full displacement hull, she enjoys all of the characteristics normally associated with such long range designs including a comfortable ride, excellent seaworthiness, economy of operation and the easy rolling motion typical of any soft-chined boat.

As an extremely popular boat with experienced cruisers, she's been the subject of constant refinements over the years and remains one of the most sought after models on the used boat market.
